Summertime is thoroughly enjoyed, by residents and visitors, to our town. From early June until late August, the weather is great and
there are many things to see and do.
The shoreline of Stephenville Crossing consists of miles of ocean washed sand, and pebbles,
which are a favorite of children, who love to collect rocks of different shapes, colors, and sizes. Nestled along the shore is Rothsday bay, which is a well used swimming spot. Black Bank beach, just a 5 minute drive away with its white, sandy beaches and beautiful sand dunes, attract many people who spend a full day swimming, combing the beach for seashells, sand dollars, and interesting pieces of driftwood. The wide stretches of sand on our beaches make them an idea place for the small ones to make mud puddles, sand angels, sand castles, and view sealife like crabs, and an abundance of shorebirds,
while parents relax and soak up the sun.
If you prefer fresh water, the locals can direct you to places like Penny's or Seal Cove Brook, which are two well known favorites. On summer evenings you will often see small fires burning
along the beach shore as people enjoy weiner and marshmallow roasts.

Another favorite past-time of residents is picking fresh berries, a taste delight for everyone. Mother Nature has blessed us with an abundance of her bounty,
wild strawberries, bakeapples, blueberries, raspberries, and partridge berries, can all be found within the town limits.
Stephenville Crossing has always been home to numerous species of birds. Hundreds of wild birds, common and rare can be seen almost year round. We have added a complete section to our site on these wonderful
creatures which can be viewed here. ![]()
If you prefer camping, Black Bank Seaside Park has a camping area, and Barachois Brook Provincial Park is just 15 minutes away. There are also many areas to pitch a tent, and just enjoy the solitude. |
