

A recognization of the need to perserve and enhance wetland habitats in North America led to
the signing in 1986, of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan(NAWMP) between Canada and
the United States, with Mexico joining in 1988. The six Eastern Provinces of Canada make up the area known as the Eastern
Habitat Joint Venture (EHJV), which is one of the 14 ventures established
to implement the policies of NAWNP. The Eastern Habitat takes in Atlantic Canada and parts
of the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. They are regional/private partnerships,
composed of individuals, coporations, conservation groups and local and Federal agencies.
